Unfortunately, I've seen almost every one of these myths claimed "in the wild". When people want something to be true, it's rather mindboggling how uncritical they can become of a story that seems to support that belief.

(Note--people who believe climate change aren't immune either. I see lots of "see, this hot summer proves that there's climate change", which isn't any more sensible than, "see, this cold winter proves there's no climate change". Weather isn't the same as climate no matter what your other beliefs are!)
