What is interesting about it isn't that it is a trap, but rather the psychological comfort it can deliver to those who employ it: each statement alone (save the last, maybe) has a fair bit of validity to it (unlike the far more transparent "of course a kitten-murderer would be the one to most strongly protest that they loved kittens"). Operated without memory, one always seems at least somewhat reasonable, unlike some Kafka traps that are unreasonable on the face of it.
