When it comes to a finite number of slots at Harvard, from the perspective of the students applying it is absolutely a zero-sum game. If you let one person in, you don't let in someone else (to a very close approximation). It's not a belief. It is a zero-sum game.

(Education isn't a zero-sum game for society. But for the students trying to get in, enrollment is.)
