Which we know is an appropriate way to level the playing field because, um, because...actually...we don't. You can check the research; there isn't much, it isn't conclusive, often doesn't even agree with itself, and there's almost nothing that is focused directly on sporting performance rather than physical characteristics (muscle density, bone mass, etc. etc.).

If this is going to be about fair competition, we need to do the research first (and decide what "fair" means). There's no reason to assume the answer will be simple, either, so we should really roll up our sleeves and prepare to look carefully.

Otherwise we're really just reading off preconceived notions and ideology. Which, you know, is okay. But we should be perfectly honest about it.

Right: I don't know whether it matters in archery, but I don't actually care if it's fair. It looks wrong, and that's reason enough for me.

Left: I don't know whether it matters in field hockey, but I don't actually care if it's fair. I love inclusiveness, and that's reason enough for me.
