Why do you think we will leave the Earth in any better shape while struggling to survive collapse than the Easter Islanders left their islands when they struggled to survive theirs?

You had better have a very very good reason to think so, or else one would think a carefully controlled transition towards greater sustainability is a far better bet, simply because it is much less likely to go catastrophically wrong (for us and very many other species).
