Yeah, um, that part about being on the right side of history? This is where it's been consistently pretty wrong. Wrong to such a degree that violence in war and police states have caused the deaths of millions of people, and many many millions have died through ideology-fueled incompetence.

Almost unbelievably, the far right has an even worse track record. But the center right has done far better. (And, I would argue, the center left has done better yet. And the interplay between the center right and center left has done better still. And none of it is really good enough.)
