Yes, this is actually all I mean.

That, plus I don't know about your experience, but at least when I took Driver's Ed waaaay back when, they took considerable pains to point out that cars are big dangerous objects and if we're to be entrusted to their use, we have to take it seriously.

It's just that when we get traffic fatalities, we don't (1) say cars are evil, (2) that people who have cars are evil, (3) that cars should be banned, etc.. People can have motorcycles, people can have Ford F-450s, people can have six cars...it's all cool! We advertise cars swooping around majestic scenery.

Cars and guns kill approximately the same number of people per year, and yet the premise behind discussions of cars is "yes, of course everyone needs their car" and the premise behind discussions of guns from the left is "only right-wing crazies need their crazy guns". There is actually a bit of truth to the latter (not the whole truth), but pursuing that rhetorical strategy hasn't worked out very well in the U.S..

If we switch to the car strategy rhetorically, it might work a lot better. Guns are cool, have a fancy one, have several, great!...but...like with cars, that means we have mandatory testing, licensing, and upkeep.
