That's hardly a rhetorical trick. He made a specific claim and provided substantial evidence in support of that claim.

What is a rhetorical trick is to mischaracterize someone's words as far more malevolent in character than they are, but fail to address their evidence, and not provide direct quotes from them (in context) to document that your claim has merit.
