Your analogy could use work, too. It fails to have identifiable groups (a key aspect of the situation), you added an action that doesn't match the ask with "not all men" (i.e. it's not "not this man" "not you either" "not you" "and not you"--that is the parallel to reassuring each of the other people individually), and...people do go to pains to make it clear that they're not accusing the audience of being the thief if there's any possible doubt!
So, anyway, you should look for a better analogy.
