You do realize that if everyone were forced to wear, 24/7, audio/video recording devices, we could almost completely end rape and/or catch and prosecute all rapists (where currently there is a pathetically tiny conviction rate).

(Also, you're right that tapping Merkel's phone didn't cause a fallout, but your statement is wrong in general--nothing at all the U.S. did caused a fallout, and this was as close as anything came.)

(Also, "that was a long time ago" is an incredibly weak defense. People are still people. If you can't explain why things will go differently, you should learn from history, lest it repeat (or rhyme).)
