Your defense of diversity is well-founded, but I don't think this is most of what is going on.

Or it is, but at a meta-level.

What is the diversity in diversity initiatives?

Serious question: what are the different approaches, names, theory behind different ways to achieve diversity, and have we been fostering a highly varied resilient ecosystem of methods and justifications for pursuing diversity as an end or as a means to an end?

Well...no.

It's been the all-DEI-all-the-time show, with a good helping of scorn for anyone who doesn't get onboard 110%. Pretty much a monoculture.

Don't get me wrong--I think the attack on DEI programs are doing far more harm than good.

But it's kind of ironic that the very same people touting the advantages of diversity are now realizing that they weren't eating their own dogfood and they perhaps should have been.
