Zero? Well, that makes this awfully easy on me.
For my single example--one is not zero!--I pick the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the concomitant move to treat disabled people as, well, people. Or the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Your choice! (Okay, I guess it's two, but since it's the same group you could argue it's one example. One is still not zero.)
By "peaceful protest" I mean "not literally causing injury to others or destroying property". I do not necessarily mean legal. By "respectful negotiation" I mean that you (1) discuss solutions and (2) predominantly assume good faith in what the other party says they'll do.
So, where's the war and blood that led to the ADA? Hm?
